Namaste!

Welcome to Kalaikoil—can’t wait to see you in class!! Summer session starts June 10. Please email to join.

We provide slow and meticulous training in Hindu Vedic chanting, Puja Vidhi and Bharatanatyam since 1995 at our studios in Dublin and Livermore, CA USA. Pandit Ravichandran teaches classes for students that have had their Upanayanam. Please click here to check his page for more information about training and pujas.

Bharatanatyam class is conducted by Swetha Dixit and is geared to all children Ages 3-18 yrs. She is in Dublin on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. She is in Livermore on Monday, Tuesday and Friday.  We primarily teach in-person but also provide an online situation for our out-of-state students that has been quite successful with the occasional in-person meetup.  Kalaikoil’s Bharatanatyam curriculum includes a variety of elements including history, theory, performance, technique within an engaging and artistic learning structure. Serious students enroll at Vijayadasami but intake can be at anytime providing sufficient enrollment or student motivation.

In addition to our rigorous training, students imbibe commitment, humility, confidence, respect and attention-to-detail. Skills honed at an early age may benefit future career choices. Dance students train to perfect posture, stamina and Abhinaya.  Hence we encourage joining children when young.

Dedicated instructors provide an individual and focused educational experience that may culminate in the student solo performance. We frequently invite other instructors for inspirational workshops. When ready, students participate in temple events, local competitions, community performances and Arangetram solo/house concert. Eight students are currently preparing for their Salangai puja, fifteen Bharatanatyam students completed an Alagappa certification, solo stage Arangetram, Salangai Pooja and/or pursued this dance art tradition after training.

This is Kalaikoil !

  • Classes are educational, fun, and so effective at training students in this traditional, ancient South Indian art form. My daughter has learned so much grace and poise studying Bharatanatyam with Swetha, and we are so grateful for her deep knowledge and expertise in dance. Plus, there are many performance opportunities, which is great!! Glad to see Swetha keep these parts of our culture thriving with the new generation and get them excited to learn about Indian arts and culture.

  • This is a longgggg overdue review. My older daughter started going here when she was 4.5 years old. Now she is 13 years. She loves it there. She started there as a shy, young girl. Early on, she didn't show that much grace in her steps as the other kids in her group. Swetha, her guru told us right away, that expressions were her forte, the grace in her steps will come with practice, as she grows older and becomes more disciplined. Both are important parts of dance.
